The latest business win means Sovex is set to smash its ambitious growth target of boosting turnover by 50 per cent from £8m to £12m in 2012.
Sovex’s products are widely used within the parcel industry and it counts UK Mail, DHL and Yodel among its many blue chip clients.
The recent order – for 70 material handling products – is from longstanding customer DPD.
The order is so significant for Sovex that the firm is taking on three apprentices, part funded by Wirral Council, to help meet demand.
Managing director David Lindfield said: “This is the biggest single order we have ever had - which is simply fantastic news for Sovex. Not only that but it allows us to offer a golden opportunity to three young people who we will be joining Sovex as apprentices.
“It’s never been tougher to be a UK manufacturer, as the latest economic figures demonstrate, but it goes to show that if your product is spot on, your customers trust you and you always deliver the goods for clients that there is business like this to be won.
“DPD is a valued client for Sovex; so valued that we invented a new piece of machinery – the Bendy Boom - for them. We’re thrilled to be working with them to grow their business during these tough economic times.”
DPD are upgrading their hubs in Smethwick and Oldbury, in the West Midlands, and 16 Bendy Booms, 63 belt vehicle loaders and 1 roller loader will be built by Sovex for DPD during the coming months and installed during the first quarter of 2013.
