(MCO) exciting fifth annual season presents a diverse program with something to please
all those who love fine music. Celebrating an intriguing mix of well loved concert
favourites, engaging 20th century masterpieces and even the world premiere of a
contemporary Australian work by its composer, pianist Benjamin Martin, the 2013
program not only showcases the finely honed skills of the chiefly director-led ensemble but
also the talents of some of Melbourne’s finest and most well-loved soloists and conductors.
Returning to the stunning acoustics of their home at the Melbourne Recital Centre, the
2013 season sees MCO turn their subtle yet athletic interpretive skills from Mozart
towards a special focus on the works of Beethoven, with Hennessy commenting that:
“This year’s program celebrates the majesty, might and invention of that most human of
all composers, Ludwig van Beethoven. From the epoch-defining Eroica symphony through
the sparkling virtuosity of the Piano concerto no 1 to the joyous charm of the Fourth
symphony, the full range of Beethoven’s expressive powers will be presented in MCO’s
uniquely taught and energetic fashion. The Beethoven you love, as you’ve never heard it
before.”
These concerts also mark the inauguration of MCO’s new 7.00pm start time for the
season’s two evening performances, enabling concert-goes to enjoy both a drink before
and dinner after the concert as complement to this perfect music-making experience.
