The USRDS report also found, “DCI continues to have the lowest SHR (Standard Hospitalization Ratio) – in 2010 10% lower than those of the other LDOs.”
USRDS data show DCI, the largest not-for-profit dialysis provider, to be the only national provider consistently to have mortality and hospitalization ratios below the national average for the last 10 years.
Dr. Doug Johnson, Vice Chair for DCI said, “We greatly appreciate all that our Medical Directors and employees do to improve care for our patients. It is because of their daily efforts to improve care for our patients that we have been able to keep more dialysis patients alive and keep them out of the hospital.”
He continued, “We realize that there is much to be done to improve care for patients with kidney disease. In the next year we plan to expand our efforts to provide early education to patients with chronic kidney disease so that they can be better empowered to make the best decision as their kidney disease progresses. Our ultimate goal is that fewer patients will require dialysis treatment.”
“If a patient does start dialysis, we plan to expand our efforts to better coordinate care for patients with kidney disease, partnering with local nephrologists, hospitals and access surgeons. We look forward to sharing our results as we look at ways to continue to improve care for patients with kidney disease.”
