Follow on Google News | Parker's Mobile Hybrid EHP System Enables Engine Size Reduction, Lower Emissions, Fuel SavingsThe Hybrid Electric Business Unit of Parker Hannifin Corporation launched its new Electro-Hydraulic Pump System. The EHP System offers significant design and performance benefits for mining machinery and equipment applications.
At the core of the EHP System is a mobile inverter that provides real-time speed/torque commands and enables the use of all traditional hydraulic-pump flow/pressure control architectures. Control, operation performance and diagnostic monitoring are accomplished through the inverter's discrete I/O or CANopen interface. The EHP System's inverter features electro-hydrostatic actuation (EHA). In mining equipment applications, EHA is used for the mining implement (e.g. shovel, scoop) and allows the implement to be decoupled from the internal combustion engine. By decoupling the mining implement, the power draw on the engine is reduced and the engine size can be optimized (reduced), thus reducing emissions and achieving fuel savings. The EHP System is also well suited for the development of hybrid and all-electric equipment solutions. Its power-on-demand capability, variable speed control and high-efficiency components, plus the ability to regenerate energy into the battery pack/ultra-capacitors, all contribute to extending the equipment's operating time between battery recharging. The EHP PMAC motor/generator is available in a wide range of voltage configurations (24 to 800 Vdc) and four diameters (142, 210, 310 and 410 rnm). With patent-pending cooling technology for optimum performance, the EHP motor has a power density up to 3.9 kW1kg. EHP motors can also couple to virtually any Parker hydraulic pump, creating significant flexibility when designing a hydraulic system. The Hybrid Electric Business Unit of Parker Hannifin specializes in hybrid electric and all-electric system solutions for mobile equipment. Whether the machine function is traction, implements or an ancillary system, the Hybrid Electric Business Unit can provide the expertise needed for designing system architectures, advanced control schemes and validating total system performance and energy savings potential.
