According to the website, reviewers consistently praised the LEAF for its peppy acceleration, low operating costs, smooth ride, roomy cabin, up-scale amenities and easy-to-use (available) nav system, but as expected, the biggest benefits come in the fuel-economy department. Here, the LEAF’s electric powertrain delivers up to 106 MPGe, which refers to “miles per gallon equivalent,” which reflects the fact that the LEAF actually uses no gasoline at all. Nor does it produce any tailpipe emissions.

On the other hand, what it does provide, in its popular SV trim, is standard features like heated front and rear seats, heated side-view mirrors, a heated steering wheel, automatic LED headlights, navigation, Nissan’s CARWINGS telematics platform, and Bluetooth technology. Also, all LEAF models provide an EPA-certified all-electric driving range of more than 70 miles, enough for the vast majority of commuters in this country.

“Our data shows that the Nissan LEAF owners drive an average of 31 miles per day, which makes it a perfect choice to meet the daily driving needs of most Americans,” according to Brendan Jones, Nissan’s director of Electric Vehicle Marketing and Sales Strategy. “What we like about this list [from TotalCarScore.com] is that it truly measures the LEAF the way it was intended—as a zero-emissions car with no-compromise performance.”
