"We are honored to receive the Daily Points of Light Award in recognition of Human Intonation and our work with our longest standing non-profit partner, HandsOn New Orleans (http://www.handsonneworleans.org). Since 2005, HandsOn New Orleans (HONO) has been a stellar volunteer organization revitalizing New Orleans, LA and is at the genesis of all that we do," says White. When White first began designing t-shirts to raise social awareness and funding in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she took the idea of service to HONO a step further by organizing two volunteer trips to New Orleans. During Thanksgiving 2006, White first volunteered with HONO, including the November 22nd “Our Block” initiative with Grammy-Award winning R&B artist Usher Raymond. In 2008, Human Intonation once again led a volunteer drive to New Orleans to complete community projects with HONO that helped re-build the city. Today, Human Intonation and HandsOn New Orleans continue their partnership with 20% of the proceeds from each sale of Human Intonation "Katrina Tees" going back to such an amazing organization.
President George H. W. Bush’s call to action has continued with every succeeding president to sustain Points of Light, and his belief that “any definition of a successful life must include serving others.” Each year, the Points of Light Tribute Awards Gala spotlights those who best exemplify the American ideal of service and voluntary action. Celebrities, dignitaries, business executives, supporters and civic leaders will come together to salute those being recognized with the Daily Points of Light award.

About HUMAN INTONATION®: Inspired by Verneda White’s personal family experience in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the loss of her very close cousin James Wesley White, Jr. to AIDS, HUMAN INTONATION is the premium unisex apparel brand dedicated to raising social awareness while giving 20% of the proceeds from each sale to growing non-profits addressing youth & minority HIV/AIDS prevention (Advocates for Youth), the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (HandsOn New Orleans), education for children in Darfur (Darfur Peace & Development Org), and most recently the citizen of Haiti (Yéle Haiti). The power in apparel by HUMAN INTONATION is that we are able to incite people to start the conversation about these issues in a way that can change perceptions, change choices, change lives. www.humanintonation.com
