Hands For Africa Charity Benefit Dinner on Thursday October 4th at UCLA Hall of Fame

SUB: This October, Hands For Africa Charity Benefit Dinner will raise money for a Kenyan orphanage with a catered dinner and keynote speaker, Christian Okoye (also known as the “Nigerian Nightmare” Pro-Bowler).

On Thursday, October 4th, 2012, the Orange County based charity, With My Own Two Hands Foundation, is hosting a Hands For Africa Charity Benefit Dinner at the UCLA Hall of Fame in Los Angeles, California.  The event will include a catered dinner by Newport Rib Company and a special keynote speech by Christian Okoye, a Nigerian-American former NFL running back for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1987 to 1992.

The Hands For Africa Charity Benefit Dinner will be raising money specifically for the construction of an orphanage for the St. Ann Baby and Children’s Home in Nakuru, Kenya.

Lindsey Pluimer, the founder of With My Own Two Hands Foundation and a former UCLA Women’s Basketball player/alum, is incredibly passionate about her charity’s cause. After volunteering at an orphanage in South Africa, Lindsey immediately realized her calling in life and gave up a promising career as a professional basketball player (after playing professionally in both Australia and Spain) in order to dedicate her life to becoming an activist in Africa.

“We’re trying to activate our local communities to start a grassroots movement to bring aid to orphans and vulnerable children in Africa regions affected by poverty and HIV/AIDS.” Pluimer explains.  “I am personally very excited to get back on to the campus of UCLA and host this benefit dinner with the help and partnership with the Bruin Varsity Club. We are so honored to have Christian Okoye as our keynote speaker and share about his life experiences in Africa. Our mission for With My Own Two Hands Foundation is to combine the yoga and sport communities with social activism, and what better location than the legendary UCLA Hall of Fame with keynote speaker, Christian Okoye?”

With My Own Two Hands Foundation will be breaking ground on September 29th in Kenya to build a four-bedroom orphanage for the St. Ann Baby and Children’s Home. The African NGO is currently facing eviction despite having a signed lease with their current property. All proceeds from Hands For Africa Charity Benefit Dinner will go toward their goal of fundraising $40,000 for the completion of this orphanage.

Ticket price is $40, which will include a catered dinner by Newport Rib Company, speech by Christian Okoye, and an array of exciting silent auction items. All proceeds will go to build a four-bedroom orphanage in Nakuru, Kenya for the St. Ann Baby and Children’s Home.

Christian Okoye is a Nigerian-American former American Football running back for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1987 to 1992. Nicknamed "The Nigerian Nightmare," Okoye was known for his powerful running style and ability to break tackles. Okoye's six seasons in the NFL saw a league rushing title in 1989, two Pro Bowl appearances (1989, 1991), and three playoff appearances. Okoye retired as the Chiefs' all-time rushing leader, having amassed 4,897 yards, 1,246 attempts, and 14 games with at least 100 yards rushing, in his six seasons. In 2000, Christian Okoye was inducted into the Kansas City Chiefs Hall Of Fame, and his Name was added in the Arrowhead Stadium ring of honor. Christian now dedicates his time to assisting individuals’ address and correct their health and weight problems, and running The Christian Okoye Foundation since 1990.
