PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 22, 2012 - Less than one year ago, forty eight year old Jose Perez, of Beechwood, NJ, learned that a genetic heart defect may suddenly end the life of the six time world powerlifting champion. Surgery was performed to correct the defect in Mr. Perez’s heart in July 2011 at Deborah Hospital of New Jersey.

Last month, this dedicated and determined athlete achieved the incredible task of being crowned the overall Champion of the N.J. State Powerlifting Championship. Along with winning a gold medal in each of the three division in which he competed, Jose is the first competitor ever in the USAPL to achieve such an accomplishment.

This qualifies him to compete again in the US championships to be held in Orlando, FL in May 2013. Mr. Perez' ultimate goal is to win the World title for a seventh time.

Jose Perez has recently started his own training system to help other older athletes realize their true potential.  The new business is called Mature Athletes.
