Sept. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- With the help of former Tampa Mayor and now interim Hillsborough County Children's Board CEO Pam Iorio, New Life Village, the newly opened innovative program providing permanent homes for children who have been languishing for years in foster care, will hold their first major event to benefit the capital campaign supporting the purchase and completion of the townhome property where the organization's community is located.

The event, "South Tampa Goes Hawaiian!" will be an authentic Luau, complete with whole roasted pig, hula & fire dancers, delicious Island cuisine, open bar, and a variety of luxury getaway items to be raffled and auctioned off (live).  Held at the beautiful home of financier and former Storm & Lightening owner Bob Gries, the event is unique, far from the usual fare of golf tournaments and luncheons typically used as fund-raising venues.

Making it that much more intriguing is the presence of Ms. Iorio, who most recently took the helm at the beleaguered Children's Board.  As the new champion for Hillsborough County's neediest children, Ms. Iorio is expected to delight guests with a few stories from her days as one of Tampa's most beloved Mayors, and celebrate the opening of such an innovative program in Tampa Bay.

New Life Village is an “intergenerational community” where not only do unwanted foster children find “forever families”, but the families get extra support from the seniors who also live in the Village and become their surrogate grandparents, and all are supported by professionals who help the children heal.  Modeled after the award willing Generations of Hope in IL, it is one of only a few such programs throughout the country, and has been written up numerous times in the Tampa Bay Times.

The event will be held on Saturday evening, October 13th from 7-11pm.  Advance registration - up to Wednesday 10/9 - offers guests an opportunity to purchase tickets at a reduced rate; 10/10 on and at the door the price goes up.  For more information and to register, go to http://www.newlifevillage.org/#!events/vstc2=luau-details....
