Sept. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- CruiseOffers.co.uk a UK based cruise website has today unveiled a new feature called “The Wonderful World of Cruising” which contains interesting statistics and facts about the growth of the cruise industry in The UK and worldwide.

The cruise industry is spread out across the world with North America accounting for the bulk of passengers and Europe coming in second. The Caribbean and Bahamas remain a top destination with almost 40% of journeys ending up in one of those two locations.

Rob Barham, founder CruiseOffers.co.uk, who has previously worked for Thomson Cruises had this to say about the health of the cruise industry “Despite the continuing squeeze on middle and lower incomes due to the recession, cruise holidays are continuing to grow year on year. This is testament to the fantastic value for money that cruise holidays offer as well as the Cruise Industry’s on-going commitment to excellence in quality, safety and entertainment.”

He went on to add “Whilst people may be making cut backs in some areas of their daily, weekly or annual expenditure it seems that for most cruise fans a cruise holiday is something that they are not prepared to cut back on.”

According to the FCCA over 16 million people went on a cruise in 2011, the industry forecasts a record breaking 17 million passengers for 2012 despite the continuing economic woes of the travel industry.

Since 1990 there have been over 180 million passengers that have embarked on a cruise. Cruise holidays are particularly popular with the older generations; the average age of a cruise passenger is 46 years old and 14% of all passengers are retirees.
In the UK the cruise industry contributes £2.28bn to the economy and is responsible for 78,000 jobs either directly or indirectly. The bulk of this is taken by Southampton which is the UK’s most popular embarkation port with over 1.5 million passengers per year.
