Sept. 20, 2012 - PRLog -- The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council, kick off their annual Trail’s End popcorn sales today at 2pm with standout salesman, Kenny Standridge, presenting the first popcorn bag of the season to San Antonio Police Chief, William McManus, on the front steps of the new SAPD headquarters building.

“Like camping and outdoor adventure, selling a product like Trail's End Popcorn prepares our youth to face the world with a heart of service, commitment, and leadership to find success,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the Alamo Area Council, BSA, based in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Standridge has found success, and now is within reach this year to hit $100,000 in overall sales.  Seventy percent of the funds raised from the popcorn sale go to support the local Scouting programs.

“I love Scouting, and everything it stands for...,” says Kenny’s mother, Deb Honeycutt.

“Boy Scouts are a great organization!  There is no father.  So, as a single mom, I’ve seen scouting mold my son into a fine young man…I am very proud of him,” continued Mrs. Honeycutt.

“Besides being grateful for Chief McManus buying Boy Scout popcorn from Kenny, we value the relationship we have with the San Antonio Police Department as partners in serving youth and our community through Exploring, the career oriented program of the Alamo Area Council,” says Angel Martinez III, Communications Executive with the local Boy Scouts.

Exploring is the young adult segment of Learning for Life, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America.  It is open to young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. The program is career or hobby based. The Law Enforcement Explorer Posts work with young people with interests in law to develop career skills while having fun.

“Explorers sell popcorn, too,” says Kathy Gibson, Exploring Executive at the Alamo Area Council.  Including Exploring posts, 248 Alamo Area Council Scouting units sold over $1,580,000 of popcorn during the annual sale in 2011.  $573,000 of those monies helped support an ideal year of scouting for kids and their communities.

Starting officially this Saturday, look for Scouts selling popcorn in front of various local businesses and within your neighborhood over the next five weeks.
