Some students and schools, however, don’t see it that way. Some see it as an opportunity in learning self-sufficiency.
When the Discovery Canyon middle school girls’ softball team found that the school couldn’t afford new uniforms, they didn’t take that as the end all. Instead, they partnered with a local business to set up a day to raise funds for their team.
On Saturday, September 22, 2012, The Phur Seasons Pet Spa will host a “Wash Your Dog for DCC” day in which it will donate half of the proceeds from the day’s washes to the DCC middle school girls softball team.
“We are a community that needs to support each other,” said Kyle Davidson, The Phur Seasons owner. “It really is a creative partnership. We get to feel good about helping these girls reach their goal of getting new uniforms and, as a new business in the area, we are gaining exposure with families. It’s a win-win.”
Possible story angles for interesting news coverage:
1. How businesses and schools are getting creative to reach their goals
2. DCC girls take uniform matters in to their own hands
3. A new self service dog wash in Colorado Springs aims to give back
There will be lots of great imagery of dogs getting washed and the softball team holding signs, getting passer-by attention. For more on the fundraising day, contact Kyle Davidson at firstname.lastname@example.org, or (970) 217-0204.
