National Fuel Poverty Conference – London and Manchester

Fuel poverty is having a devastating impact on the health outcomes and well being in the UK.

Sept. 19, 2012 - PRLog -- These impacts are projected to increase as energy prices continue to rise, coupled with the current econcomic hardships and the results of climate change. By 2016, 1 in 3 homes could be affected by fuel poverty.

In association with Homes & Communities Agency (HCA), Sustainable Homes is hosting a National conference ‘Fuel Poverty – finding solutions’ on 28th September in London and 10th October in Manchester.

The conference through its presentations and workshops will allow attendees to:

Learn about the latest Government policies to tackle fuel poverty and what it means for you

Gain an insight into housing associations looking to provide Green Deal and how this will impact fuel poverty

Hear resident experiences of campaigns to reduce fuel poverty in their homes.

Learn about what leading advice and retrofit projects are doing to reduce fuel poverty

Hear from national experts on fuel poverty Take part in workshops to guide you on how you can reduce fuel poverty in your organisation

Andrew Eagles, Managing Director at Sustainable Homes acknowledges the importance of tackling this issue and says, “World Health Organisation research shows fuel poverty is leading to over 7000 deaths a year in the UK.

With prices rising further it is important to share best practise on what can be done.”
Expert presentations will be heard from leading housing experts, including Brenda Boardman, Emeritus Professor, Oxford University, Sally Hancox, Director, Gentoo Green, Stephen Ryman, Senior Policy Advisor, Department of Energy and Climate Change and Peter Smith, External Affairs Manager, National Energy Action.

SHIFT members including Regenda, Staffordshire Housing and Gentoo Group will be providing case studies on their experiences in regards to tackling the issue of fuel poverty, providing further context for the workshops.
