Taking place on Saturday 29th September 2012 at St Barnabas Cathedral Hall in Nottingham, the event offers a basic introduction to Catholicism and what Catholics believe.
Dean and Parish Priest Father Geoffrey Hunton says, “We’re running this event to raise awareness and understanding of life in the Catholic Church. Our aim is to conduct short talks about the church and encourage people to ask questions about how people might choose to embrace faith and understanding or simply discuss their own faith with trained catechists. Anyone is welcome to attend.”
Derek Williams, a well known Catholic Evangelist, will be presenting at the event. He explains, “The presentations will include a combination of theological education and spiritual discussion but show aspects of the Catholic faith in a simple and down to earth way. For example, many people don’t understand the relevance of bread and wine in the teachings of the church but we’ll be running sessions on this and other related topics.”
One of the event’s organisers, Ken Elliott Smith welcomes anyone to simply drop in to the event on the day. He says, “Jesus invites us to listen to His word so that we can understand the great gift which He is offering. Many people have no knowledge of what Catholics believe and would like the opportunity to ask basic questions. This is an opportunity to find out more in a relaxed, friendly and informal setting.”
The Open Event takes place on Saturday 29th September at St Barnabas Cathedral Hall on North Circus Street (near The Nottingham Playhouse) from 12pm until 4pm. Refreshments will be available and trained Catechists will be on hand to answer questions.
Anyone interested in attending is welcome to drop in to the Cathedral Hall anytime between 12pm and 4pm on the day.
