By supporting the development of a research institute, DCI and the UNM hope to improve the care to individuals with kidney disease in the future. “The opening of the Kidney Research Institute is a significant milestone that will benefit the people of New Mexico,” said Pope Moseley, M.D. chair of the Department of Internal Medicine of the UNM Health Sciences. “UNM is fortunate to have had a long and productive relationship with DCI in the past. Such a generous gift on their behalf will issue in a new era of research in New Mexico." "As a non-profit organization, DCI funds education and research initiatives designed to improve the lives of those with kidney disease, and to prevent the disease for individuals who are at risk. Having worked with the talented physicians and staff at University of New Mexico for many years, we are honored to support the establishment of the UNM Kidney Research Institute. We fully believe their research will have the power to yield insights that will help provide higher quality care to future generations with kidney disease," states Ed Attrill, DCI President. DCI operates 11 dialysis clinics in New Mexico. The newest clinic, DCI South Valley, is hosting an open house from 4-6 pm on Thursday, September 20th at 1725 Isleta Blvd. SW in Albuquerque. Providing treatments to approximately 14,000 patients, DCI operates more than 200 clinics located in 27 states across the U.S. DCI is recognized by the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) for the past nine years as the only national provider having hospitalization and mortality ratios consistently below national average. DCI is committed to generating research funds in order that the methods for treatment of ESRD patients might be improved.
