Follow on Google News | Enviromental Consutlancy Cairn Technology Adds New Incontinence Product Range to its PortfolioCairn Technology Limited, a Sheffield-based environmental consultancy, have added to their product range for care homes. The Abena continence care range is designed to promote resident comfort, whilst helping care homes save money on pads & cleaning.
By: Cairn Technology Ltd The Abena products are well-known within the care home industry, and have been tested to ISO standard. The range includes diapers, pads, pull-ups and wash gloves, all designed to promote effective continence care whilst minimising discomfort. Cairn would like care homes to be made aware of the availability of these products as PCTs are gradually being phased out. Some care homes currently receive incontinence products for their residents via their continence service or PCT (but this is likely to change) and often, the quantity is insufficient, and they need to purchase extras. Many care homes are given an allowance to buy incontinence products and others simply have to source and purchase all incontinence products themselves for their residents. However, by investing in high quality incontinence products, care homes will be able to save money, as better quality pads lead to fewer leakages. This means that fewer pads are used, the costs of cleaning bedding and clothing is reduced, and resident discomfort is kept to a minimum. In an October 2010 study conducted by Abena, in which the Abena products were compared to other leading incontinence products, 100% of care home staff asked rated the containment, ease of use and fit of the Abena products as “Excellent/ One of the carers questioned for the study said: “I found the pad very good in holding urine and faeces”. Another commented that the Abena pads were “a very good product and excellent for patient care”. Heather McWilliams, for Cairn, comments: “High quality, well-fitting incontinence products are a cost saver for care homes as fewer pads will be used and leakages reduced. This contributes to good infection control practice and reduces odour problems within the home.” Cairn is an environmental consultancy specialising in infection control and continence care, and working primarily within the hospital and care home sectors. Care home residents may suffer from incontinence, due to age, illness or disability, and if prolonged exposure to moisture occurs, it is not only uncomfortable for the resident, but it can also cause the skin to break down, leaving the resident susceptible to infections. Promoting a high standard of continence care in care homes is therefore absolutely vital, to promote not just the comfort, but also the dignity of the residents.
