Cassidian, the defence and security division of EADS, presents a selection of its range of capabilities and security solutions at AAD 2012. Cassidian is a leading global provider of security solutions and integrated security systems for the civil and military markets.  Cassidian has successfully delivered proven military solutions currently deployed in operational environments and has a global delivery approach based on partnering with strong in-country proven technology partners to ensure the long term success of the solution implementation and through-life support.

Through technology co-operation and transfer of know-how, and by selecting local partners with complementary skills and capabilities, Cassidian can assist in
growing these companies and directly benefitting the local industries in customer countries.

Cassidian uniquely provides end-to-end, field-proven solutions to increase mission effectiveness.  Cassidian is a lead provider of Airborne Platform Sensors and Self Protection Systems.  Cassidian has the capability to deliver complex programmes for defence and civil customers based upon global references.

Border Security
Cassidian presents its technological progress by staging interactive, latest-generation scenarios projected in 3D in the TouchLab. Cassidian is presenting scenarios featuring various situations and presenting its customers with a display in an interactive environment of its unique innovative solutions that have been developed to meet the challenges of the future. A border protection scenario is showcasing Cassidian’s key expertise in lead systems integration, which is the basis of the Cassidian offering to customers for optimum territorial protection. Cassidian is currently the prime contractor of the most advanced integrated border protection systems, for instance, for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Romania. The border and national security systems are integrated into C4ISR systems (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) which are the drivers of the new operational approach to border security.

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
Thanks to its key technologies acquired over several decades of designing manned aerial systems (aircraft design, precision navigation, flight software architecture, standardised interfaces, mission planning, etc.), Cassidian is one of the leading companies in the UAS market today. Cassidian develops and manufactures global solutions to meet the operational requirements of remote-controlled unmanned aerial systems (e.g. certification air traffic requirements, sensor control, air vehicle control).

Air Dominance
Cassidian operates as a partner to Armed Forces as a large system integrator of existing and future platforms and projects. Cassidian experts will be attending the exhibition and able to provide an overview of the integrated systems solutions in integrated air defence including weapon assignment systems and fire control and air operations such as traffic surveillance and control.  Major programmes include SAMOC (Ground Based Air Defence), FGBAD (Future Ground Based Air Defence), ACCS (Air Command & Control System) and GIADS (German Improved Air Defence System).

Sensors for Mission Intelligence
Cassidian is also showing the SPEXER portfolio of security radars which consists of several sensors, each optimized for specific applications in the fields of border, infrastructure, perimeter and coastal surveillance. A specific version for border surveillance, SPEXER 2000, is under production for a huge border surveillance system in the Middle East while a variant optimized for detection of objects over sea and land – SPEXER 2000 Coastal – has been introduced recently. Specific versions for close-in surveillance are available, particularly for protection of industry sites or military camps. SPEXER is the worldwide first security radar using the newest radar technologies such as active electronic scanning (AESA) or digital beam-forming. These technologies enable the sensors to fulfill several tasks at the same time while increasing the detection capability substantially. Therefore, one SPEXER™ radar can replace two or more conventional radars.

In the field of defence, Cassidian concentrates on medium range surveillance and target acquisition radars for both naval and ground applications. On display are models of Cassidian's SPEXER 2000 and 1500 radar and the TRML-3D ground radar. TRML-3D is a mobile surveillance and target acquisition radar, which can be integrated easily into existing air defence networks by means of its own command & control functionality. TRML is in service in Lithuania, the Netherlands and Malaysia.

Electronic Self-Protection
Maximum protection for helicopters and wide-body aircraft provides the Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS). AMPS is an autonomous system based on the missile warning sensor MILDS which is primarily designed for the stand alone operation on platforms without a complex electronic warfare suite onboard. It consists of a small number of components, does not need any interface to the aircraft's avionics and is controlled by one single display and control unit. Thus, AMPS is perfectly suited for retrofit programmes of legacy aircraft. MILDS with more than 8,000 sensors sold is the standard missile warner for helicopters and widebody aircraft worldwide.
