Robert Geneid launch new Annual Scholarship and Encouragement Prize for SK Batu Bungan

Robert Geneid launches a new Annual Scholarship and Encouragement Prize for the students of rural school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan. The scholarship and prize is hope to encourage students to create a strong and vibrant community.
 
Sept. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- The Managing Director of Borsamulu Resort Sdn Bhd Managing Director, Robert Geneid, announced the commencement of an Annual Scholarship Prize and Encouragement Award for the students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan. Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Bungan , a primary education school, is located in the rural district of Baram, in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is the one and only school in the area of the Penan village of Batu Bungan. There are 156 students, 81 boys and 75 girls, enrolled in the first six years of school.  

The Parents and Teachers Association of the school are also presented with a one off gift of RM2,500 to be used as incentives for selected students. The gift is courtesy of Borsamulu Park Management Sdn. Bhd.

The Annual Scholarship Prize is bestowed to the top 3 local students in Primary 6. The prize includes a cash prize and reimbursement for their Secondary School educational costs. The top student will be granted a RM250 prize in cash along with a RM500 reimbursement for the costs of Secondary School education. The second placed student will be conferred a RM100 prize and RM400 as reimbursement for their secondary school educational costs. The third placed student will be given a RM50 in cash plus a reimbursement of RM200.

The selections for the Annual Scholarship Prize are made collectively by the Parents and Teachers Association, the Principal along with the Gunung Mulu National Park’s Park Manager. The Park Manager will have the final say on the nominations.

The Encouragement Award on the other hand, is for all students of the school regardless of the year of study and is presented during the closing of every school term. The awards are granted to one student in each grade and will consist of a book voucher from Borsamulu, the value of which is varied according to the grade and the semester of the school year.

The selection criteria for the Encouragement Award winners will not only include the academic achievements of the students but also be based upon other factors such as the improvement and general behaviour of the student both during and outside of school hours. The recipients will be decided by the Parents and Teachers Association, the Principal of and the Park Manager.

The scholarship and award is hoped to serve as an encouragement for the students of SK Batu Bungan to study harder and help their fellow students. This will in turn help the ongoing development  of a strong and vibrant community in Mulu.
