GoodbyeOldFriend.Com is a simple way to make that notice more widely available and to make it last longer.
The Notice is a very simple announcement:
Launching the site at http://www.goodbyeoldfriend.com , Nigel Morris-Cotterill, Director of Vortex Centrum Ltd, said "We first researched this service four years ago and began development of it then. As we worked on the service, it became clear that, at a difficult time, all the whistles and bells we had planned were an unwelcome distraction. People wanted simplicity of use and elegance of presentation. And that is what we have delivered."
The company has commissioned a series of articles about grief and related matters and they will appear in due course.
GoodbyeOldFriend.Com is building a directory of service providers, indexed by locality, to support the bereaved.
Morris-Cotterill said " We are sensitive to the needs of the bereaved. The genesis for this concept was, in fact, a bereavement in my own family. Publishing notices in newspapers was a heartbreaking task and ridiculously complicated. When a second bereavement occurred, we noticed the outrageously high cost charged by newspapers. That increased our resolve to produce a viable alternative to the newspaper service at a much, much lower cost."
Morris-Cotterill said that his family noticed not only that the cost of notices in newspapers was much higher than for a small-ad of the same size but that telephone calls to place the notice were answered by sales people who tried to up-sell additional services at a time when people were vulnerable.
The standard fee for filing a Notice at GoodByeOldFriend will be only GBP5. But for a short time, as the service is launched, Notices will be free. Making entries in the Book of Remembrance is free.
Those filing Notices are required to register with verifiable details to aid in the prevention of fraudulent and/or malicious Notices. Those making entries in the Book of Remembrance register for that purpose alone.
For the Book of Remembrance, GoodbyeOldFriend.com has partnered with Disqus.Com, a community service provider which is used by many of the world's largest media groups to manage and maintain contributions from the wider populations.
Notes for editors
Vortex Centrum is a loose Latin translation of "The Eye of the Storm." Formed in 1999, we were at the forefront of the digital revolution, as it was called then. Later, when publishing companies started to use the internet, we learned that we were a "new media company."
It publishes in a number of professional and commercial areas including several vertical markets.
In addition, the company is developing a range of personal websites of which GoodbyeOldFriend.Com is one.
