As a result of boosting their reading skills in this way, they gain self-confidence and improve their academic performance. Most children will read several books while in the program. For many, this is the first time they have actually read a book. The method works equally well with older students. High school students who have struggled with advanced subject matter due to reading below grade level are enabled to read and comprehend the more difficult vocabulary of science and other subjects.
The Academic Associates Reading Program was developed by Cliff Ponder, a California elementary school teacher and school principal.
