IndieGoGo Extends Uwingu’s Crowdfunding Campaign, Uwingu Aims to Benefit SETI

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 17, 2012 - Leading crowdfunding website IndieGoGo has extended UwinguTM, LLC’s crowdfunding IndieGoGo-hosted campaign to generate launch capital. Uwingu’s campaign, which has raised 77% of its $75,000 objective, will now extend throughout the current week until September 24th.

“We are excited about the campaign extension by IndieGoGo” said Dr. Alan Stern, Uwingu’s CEO. He continued, “This also gives us another opportunity to help the SETI Allen Telescope Array project, which Uwingu has partnered with to fund if our $75,000 campaign goal is exceeded.”

Uwingu is a space-themed, for profit start up. Uwingu’s mission is to create a new funding stream for space exploration, research, and education efforts around the world. Through the sale of astronomically themed software applications on internet. Uwingu’s crowdfunding campaign’s purpose is to raise start up funds to launch the first such software application.

Uwingu (which means “sky” in Swahili, and is pronounced “oo-wing-oo”) was formed by a team of leading astronomers, planetary scientists, former space program executives, and educators. The company’s portfolio of space heavyweights include space historian and author Andrew Chaikin, space educator Dr. Emily CoBabe-Ammann, citizen science leader Dr. Pamela Gay, author and museum science director Dr. David Grinspoon, planet hunter Dr. Geoff Marcy, planetary scientist and aerospace executive Dr. Teresa Segura, planetary scientist and former NASA science boss Dr. Alan Stern, and planetary scientist and CEO of the Planetary Science Institute, Dr. Mark Sykes.
