By: Brookside Care Home Staff, Violet’s son Geoff and Daughter in Law Anne, Family and Friends organised a fun packed day, which included, renditions of famous WWII songs performed by Josie, the two Barbara’s, Pat and Hillary, (better known as the Sue Ryder ‘Land Girls’ a singing and dancing group) the attendance of The Madam Mayor of Chorley, June Molyneaux, accompanied by The Mayoress, Florence Molyneaux and Dr. Ahad (and his Staff), Violet’s GP for over 25 years. “It was a fantastic day for Violet and everyone involved” said *Brookside Care Home Manager Louise Newton, “Violet joined in the celebrations all the way and was extremely proud of her 100th Birthday card from the Queen as she is a strong Royalist and supporter. She also reminded all of us that she got married in the same colour outfit as the Queen-powder blue!” Violet was born 100 years ago in York where she lived and worked with her two sisters, Ruth & Lilley and her two brothers Henry and Billy. Her working life included time as a French Polisher, Laundry worker and a Button Maker. She married George in 1939 and had one son Geoff. Her husband fought and was wounded in the War after which Violet nursed him back to health. After her husband passed away she moved with her son and daughter in law to Chorley “Violet is a chatty and affectionate lady” adds Emma Danson, one of Violet’s Support Workers at Brookside. “She loves to sing and have company and enjoys time with her son Geoff. We are all fascinated when she talks about her life experiences. Adds Emma, “She is a wonderful and feisty Lady and has been known to drop the odd expletive now and then when we don’t come up to her expectations” The Banners and Flags, Balloons, Sherry and Birthday Cake were all part of Violets 100th Birthday Celebrations but she was definitely the centre of attention and puts her longevity down to hard work, good fun and clean living!
