Sept. 17, 2012 - PRLog -- Some of the UK’s top chefs have provided healthy recipes for HEART UK’s National Cholesterol Week which is running Hearty Tea Parties across the country this week.

Among the celebrity chefs supporting HEART UK are Ambassador Aldo ZIlli, Antony Worrall Thompson, Jean Christophe Novelli, Gino D’Acampo, Rachel Allen, Phil Vickery, The Hairy Bikers and Cyrus Todiwala.

Each chef has provided tasty treats recipes which promote healthy eating, available on the HEART UK website, to provide inspiration to the hundreds of people across the UK who are hosting a HEART UK Hearty Tea Party to catch up with friends and family and raise money for the charity at the same time.

HEART UK ambassador and renowned Italian chef Aldo Zilli said: “Nobody loves La Dolce Vita more than me and as an Ambassador for HEART UK I’m delighted to support Hearty Tea Parties and celebrate with friends during National Cholesterol Week.

“Cholesterol affects everyone, young and old and can be inherited rather than just an effect of a poor lifestyle, so this is a great opportunity to remind everyone that knowing their cholesterol and supporting HEART UK can help to save lives.”

Fellow chef Jean Christophe Novelli added: “Afternoon tea may be an English tradition, but there is a certain je ne sais quoi about meeting up with friends and family that translates into any language. I’m delighted to support HEART UK’s National Cholesterol Week and hope the public enjoy trying out my recipes during their own Hearty Tea Parties.”

Rachel Allen said: “Hosting a Hearty Tea Party is a brilliant reason to start baking and indulge in some healthy treats – something which I love to do. It gives us a great excuse to get together, eat some delicious cake and enjoy our friends company while raising awareness of heart disease. I think this is a fantastic cause with a great element of fun and I am delighted to be involved.”

Heart disease is still the biggest killer in the UK and despite years of high cholesterol health warnings, almost half the population have never had a cholesterol check despite the fact that it can be caused by inherited conditions as well as today’s unhealthy lifestyles.

Many people are unaware of the types of foods that could actually help them reduce their cholesterol levels and ultimately help them decrease their risk of complications from conditions such as heart disease and other circulatory disorders.

HEART UK Chief Executive Jules Payne said: “HEART UK is passionate about helping people with raised cholesterol and we’re delighted that so many people across the country

More than 120,000 people in Britain have a form of inherited high cholesterol called FH which can cause premature death in those as young as 30 with only 15% aware that they have the condition.

HEART UK is the UK's only cholesterol charity and dedicated to providing support for people with inherited and non-inherited high cholesterol. They also work with governing bodies and medical stakeholders to develop better methods of detection and treatment for cholesterol-related conditions.

Italian chef Gino D’Acampo said: “I'm very pleased to be involved in HEART UK’s National Cholesterol Week - it's important to be aware of the dangers of cholesterol.  So, what better way to raise awareness and funds for heart disease than to enjoy a tea party with tasty food and friends. Teatime recipes don’t have to be full of fat to be full of flavour.”

Antony Worrall Thompson commented: “HEART UK’s National Cholesterol Week is a timely reminder that we should all take heart health seriously. So have some fun, get your friends and family around and raise some money for a great cause while tucking into some delicious healthy ‘Hearty Tea Party’ treats.”
