An Overnight Success—28 years in the making for best-selling author

Edmonton, AB- It’s a familiar story for a writer. Form rejection letters from agents and publishers, publishing houses that seem great and then go bankrupt, and enough rejections to wallpaper an office—twice.

But writer Cheryl Kaye Tardif kept to her motto of ‘Dare to Dream…and Dream BIG!’ and now after many years and 10 e-books later, she has finally arrived…in more ways than one.

“I’ve gone from self publishing my first book, to signing with a traditional publisher and agent, to going back to self publishing and now signing with another agent, but this time there is a big difference. Now I’m actually making money with my books,” says Tardif, who was close to giving up her dreams and having to find a JOB.

In a bold experiment Tardif pulled two of her published books out of distribution and enrolled them in the new Amazon KDP Select program. After the first month, she quadrupled the previous month's income and enrolled more of her titles in Select.

The next month, she made over $42,000 with her Kindle e-books, the majority of that from one title. In July, she sold over 26,000 kindle copies of another title. Her sales the past 6 months have been so good they caught the eye of some influential people. Suddenly agents and publishers were coming to her. And she was ready for them.

“I have always had goals in mind for my books and I was looking for more foreign translations, audio, film and major book contracts. After being contacted by Adrienne Lombardo of Trident Media Group in New York (owned by Robert Gottlieb), and a senior editor from Penguin USA, I decided to sign with Trident and see if we could take my books to the next level.”

Tardif wants everyone to know that although her dreams are coming true, she isn’t an overnight success. ‘Be bold—or go home!’ is her new motto. It takes hard work, dedication, education, and risk-taking to succeed in the business of books. And, oh yes, Big Dreams.
