When the DSi XL was released, R4 owners around the world were relieved to find out that their trusty homebrew cards continued to work and were fully compatible with the new larger hand held. With the 3DS XL, after extensive testing, we are happy to report that several brands and versions of the R4 3DS Cards are in fact 100% compatible with the new 3DS XL system.
Due to the large number of clone manufacturers, not all R4 cards will work on the new 3DS XL. In fact, many of the bigger clone makers have already stopped their copying ways and don't have any firmware updates to enable their cards to work on this new version of the hand held console. There are however 2 or 3 official cards that have not met the same fate, and have been updated either via firmware kernel updates, or hardware updates, to ensure they work.
The R4 3DS RTS version from http://www.r43ds.org has proven once again that it is the fastest to the gate when it comes to ensuring compatibility. Not only with new system OS released, but also with the release of the 3DS XL console. This card has proven time and time again that regardless of the updates that come out, it just keeps on working. The official store has been updated to reflect this new level of compatibility with the XL console.
The R4 3DS Red box version also works on the newest ads V4.3.0-10 update as well as the new Nintendo 3DS XL. While it does not boast as many of the features as the RTS version of the card, it's a completely and fully compatible card that just works. It brings multi media playback to the Nintendo 3DS and all previous DS/DSi hand helds from Nintendo.
It's about time that people realize that buying any old R4 3DS just won't do. Without the proper support and updates, customers are often tricked in to buying a cheaper card, only to have to keep buying a new one with every major update. The folks at r43ds.org believe in selling cards that simply continue to work, and have the backing and support of a diligent development team.
