Dr. Larry Diaz-Sandoval Elected to Fellowship in the American College of Physicians

Wyoming, Michigan, September 14, 2012 – Metro Health Hospital announced today that Dr. Larry Diaz-Sandoval has been elected to fellowship in the American College of Physicians, or ACP.

Fellowship in the ACP is a mark of distinction representing the pinnacle of integrity, professionalism and scholarship for those who aspire to pursue careers in internal medicine and its sub-specialties and recognizes Diaz-Sandoval’s commitment to the medical community.  Fellows earn this distinction from colleagues who recognize their accomplishments, achievements and contributions made to both medicine and to the broader community in which the internist lives and practices.  More than 35,000 physicians have earned ACP Fellowship since 1975.

An interventional cardiologist, Diaz-Sandoval has a decade years of experience in cardiology and cardiovascular disease.  He is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology.  He joined Metro Health's growing heart and vascular medicine practice in 2011.

A native of Venezuela who is fluent in four languages, Diaz-Sandoval obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela.  He completed his residency in internal medicine and his cardiovascular disease fellowship at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.  He also completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Diaz-Sandoval lectures and writes frequently on interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular medicine subjects. He has authored several original research papers, as well as numerous book chapters and actively participates in the education of residents and fellows.  He is an assistant professor of medicine at Michigan State University.  He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.  He is also an active member of the American Heart Association, Society of Vascular Medicine and the American Medical Association.

Diaz-Sandoval has received numerous professional and research awards, including being named one of America’s Top Cardiologists in 2010 and 2012 by the Consumer’s Research Council of America and the Physician Recognition Award from the American Medical Association for 2009-2010, his third time to receive this honor.  He is also a member of the National Register’s “Who’s Who” in Executives and Professionals.
