The Zippy Shell Sunshine Challenge aims to raise $2,000 through the company’s Facebook page. For every dollar donated by Zippy’s Facebook fans, the company will match that dollar up to $1,000 to reach the fundraisers target. The total money raised will sponsor one family to go through one of the camp’s week-long programs. The Sunshine Challenge kicks off today and people can make a donation at the Zippy Shell Facebook page.
Families that have a child diagnosed with medical conditions such as cancer, kidney disease, lupus, solid organ transplants, and other life threatening illnesses attend one of Camp Sunshine’s week-long programs. The special needs camp’s focus is alleviating the strain that a life threatening illness takes on the sick child and on other family members. Families have an opportunity to rebuild their relationships together and meet other families facing similar challenges.
Zippy Shell’s Marketing Director of Marketing has seen first-hand the impact Camp Sunshine’s work has on families.
“I have participated in a couple of Camp Sunshine events and realized that while the intense impact of disease is on the child, the families take on a tremendous burden as caregivers,”
Camp Sunshine is a free program staffed almost entirely by volunteers, many of whom return year after year. The volunteers reflect the diversity of the families, and help with recreational leadership, childcare, food service, and other services.
Another distinctive component of Camp Sunshine is the medical facility and professional staff that are available to address the taxing physical needs of children with intrusive diseases. A physician is located at the camp for the entire session so that families can be secure in the knowledge that 24-hour onsite medical support is available. In addition, a hospital with full-time emergency room physicians and pediatricians is only 25 minutes from the camp.
The Zippy Shell Sunshine Challenge will run through October 15th, 2012.
