Hospice of Michigan's Maggie Allesee Center Receives
Approved Provider Status for Continuing Nursing Education

Detroit, Michigan, September 13, 2012 - Hospice of Michigan is pleased to announce that its Maggie Allesee Center for Quality of Life has once again received accreditation as an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Wisconsin Nurses Association.

HOM is the only free-standing hospice program in Michigan to hold this status from the Wisconsin Nurses Association, which is an accredited approver of continuing nurse education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.  In order to maintain licensure as a registered nurse, the state of Michigan requires 25 continuing nursing education credits, or CNEs, every two years.  

Having approved provider status not only allows HOM to offer its nursing staff these credits free or minimal charge and at convenient location, but it also gives HOM the ability to work with nurses throughout the state and outside of the state of Michigan and properly educate them on issues and concepts dealing with end of life care.

“Providing hospice and palliative care requires special knowledge and understanding,” said Rod Borillo, corporate director of education and training at Hospice of Michigan.  “The ability to provide continuing nursing education helps us teach nurses new ways to improve the care they give patients in the last phase of life.”

As part of HOM's education outreach mission, the organization is collaborating with local organizations, including Oakwood Hospital and the Jewish Caring Coalition to provide CNE to the community.

This is the third time HOM has received this accreditation, which expires after three years.
