Sept. 14, 2012 - PRLog -- Air Fuel Synthesis (AFS)  announced  that it is now producing  carbon-neutral petrol (gasoline) as a practical drop-in synthetic alternative to fossil fuels. This latest exciting development is part of the company’s continuing £ 1.1 million development programme at its unique Demonstrator facility on Teesside, England.

The company initially proved its fuel reactor technology in April 2012 by producing methanol fuel from carbon dioxide and hydrogen.   A gasoline fuel reactor is now producing petrol from the methanol base as the company works towards its first commercial fuel production unit, which will be powered by renewable electricity.
Although in the near term AFS expects carbon from a point source to be a more economic proposition for its compact, containerised fuel production units, the company has also demonstrated its ability to capture CO2 from the atmosphere for use in totally carbon-neutral fuels.

These achievements confirm Air Fuel Synthesis as a global pioneer in synthetic fuel development. Recent visitor to the AFS Demonstrator Facility, Stephen Tetlow, Chief Executive of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers commented:
“Air Fuel Synthesis is a truly groundbreaking technology.  It has the potential to become a great British success story, which opens up a crucial opportunity to reduce carbon emissions.  It also has the potential to reduce our exposure to an increasingly volatile global energy market.  The potential to provide a variety of sustainable fuels for today’s vehicles and infrastructure is especially exciting.”

Air Fuel Synthesis Chairman David Still commented:
“We are now ready to build the first commercial Air Fuel Synthesis production plant making carbon-neutral petrol.  The technology can add to new or existing renewable energy projects, especially where the energy is stranded;  where  there is  a premium for secure liquid  fuels for existing vehicles;  or for reducing carbon emissions.  Demand for specialist high quality low-carbon fuels in motorsports offers a particularly attractive early niche market for investors.

“Further investors and partners will enable us to rapidly commercialise our technologies  and help customers address  fossil oil price volatility and supply constraints as well as the implications of carbon-driven climate change.“

AFS continues to seek additional investment for its carbon-neutral alternative solution to fossil fuels. More details about the renewable fuel technology can be found at www.airfuelsynthesis.com.
