The Power to Empower Competition aims to identify the most innovative for-profit enterprises contributing to widespread skills development in India.
It is estimated that 15 million people enter India’s workforce every year, out of which less than 5% have undergone vocational training and only 13% have a post-secondary education [Source: NSDC]. As a result, the majority of India’s population cannot realize the employment opportunities necessary to improve their income and contribute positively to India’s growth.
Recognizing this, the Power to Empower Competition launches August 29th, 2012 to encourage entrepreneurs with innovative and scalable business solutions contributing to the development of a sustainable vocational skills ecosystem in India to submit an application. Applications will be open online until October 30th 2012.
After two intensive rounds of mentoring and screening, the best skills development solutions will be selected with the support of sector experts. Winners will be selected in 5 regions across India (East, West, North, South and Central) with one overall winner also being identified. Winners will be given the opportunity to showcase their solutions to impact investors and experts in order to spur the growth of their enterprises over the long-term.
