Verlee is the author of Racing Hummingbirds, which earned the Independent Publisher Book Award Silver Medal in poetry, and recipient of the Sandy Crimmins National Prize for Poetry. She is a poetry editor for Union Station Magazine and director and team coach for Urbana Poetry Slam. Verlee holds a number of local and national slam titles and has represented New York City nine times under both NYC-Urbana and NYC-louderARTS at the National Poetry Slam, Individual World Poetry Slam, and Women of the World Poetry Slam.
From 7:30 to 8:30pm, Jeanann Verlee facilitates a writing workshop that is free for attendees of The Pigeon Presents: The Philadelphia Poetry Slam. At 9 sharp, Verlee performs original work, kicking off the second season of the Philadelphia Poetry Slam, a competition between poets judged by members of the audience.
