The Band was formed in January 2003, under the aegis of Laverne Phillips and Tom Uhler. Don Knowland, who is a retired band director and instructor, has been Band Director since. In nine years The Community Band has grown from a handful of players to more than 30 musicians during season, most of who travel from “the mainland” for rehearsals and performances. As a “new horizons” band (an international organization for musicians who experienced a long hiatus from playing their instruments)
The Community Band will perform highlights from "The King and I," "Commando March," "The Walking Frog," "Victory At Sea," "Overture for Winds," and other favorites in their Holiday Concert on Tuesday, December 11 at BIG ARTS. Tickets are general admission $10; children 17 and under are free with adult.
Community Chorus practice begins October 16, and meets Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at BIG ARTS.
