A precursor to the final round in Rotterdam, the Red Bull BC One Middle East and Africa Qualifier 2012, makes its debut in Morocco for the first time in the region and comes following a series of Local Red Bull BC One Cyphers held in the Middle East and Africa. The Regional Qualifier will see the 16 luminaries of the Local Cyphers perform tantalizing freestyle routines to win over the judges, Red Bull BC One All Star B-Boys Ronnie (USA), Cico (Italy) and Roxrite (USA), the officiating champion.
The judges – and international breaking bigwigs – will be evaluating participants based on three key breaking skills: technique, innovation and dance flow. The competitors are expected to demonstrate immaculate footwork, stellar coordination and impressive flexibility as only one lucky winner can reign breaking supremacy and continue to the World Final in Rio de Janeiro.
In truth, the stakes are enormously high as over 60 Local Cyphers were held all over the world and six continental – or regional – Qualifiers are being hosted in Mexico, the USA, the Netherlands, Russia, Morocco and New Zealand, all to determine who is fit to perform at the 16 B-Boy International Finals. It will all culminate in an ultimate battle this December in Rio de Janeiro, comprising six regional winners and 10 other aficionados of the breaking scene (selected by a team of experts).
Since its founding in 2004, the Red Bull BC One has become the quintessential universal breaking competition. While it was initially geared towards established B-Boys, in 2011, the challenge was thrown open to all and aspiring dancers were given a chance to compete through a multi-layered global qualification phase. In fact, it is thanks to this pioneering initiative that Red Bull BC One was voted ‘Best B-Boy Event’ at the World of Dance Awards 2011.
