September’s ‘Night on Broadway’ Benefits the Sunscreen Film Festival

The ‘smell of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd’ will be the order of the day as the Sunscreen Film Festival presents the 4th Annual “A Night on Broadway” Concert, at the Fort Harrison in Clearwater on the 22nd and 23rd of September.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 13, 2012 - CLEARWATER: In the year since the fictional former accountant James P. Mac Leroy inherited a theater from his aunt, he has built a strong theater company and is turning a profit. But when his Cousin Evalou comes to town, determined to retire from showbiz, it is up to James and his players to change her mind.

How well he does or doesn’t achieve this is the core of the 4th Annual Sunscreen Presents a Night on Broadway benefit concert and review. This year, two shows will be produced – a gala evening performance at 8pm on Saturday the 22nd of September and a 2pm matinee on Sunday the 23rd. (Doors open one hour before show time). The show is being held at the historic Fort Harrison in downtown Clearwater, with ticket prices ranging from $15 to $50.

The event features the talents of Joanie Sigal, Tom Godfrey, Jessy Leros, LD Sledge, Alan Mehanna, Elena Warner, Colleen Lindsey, Wiso Gossett, Saiyo Shaw, Julianne Bourdeau and Melissa Ryan.

The audience will enjoy a show-within-a-show, as the performers of the fictional Mac Leroy Theater Company perform excerpts of their successful shows of the past year and rehearse their upcoming season. Highlights include songs from Funny Girl, West Side Story, Evita and Hairspray.

Admission includes a Golden Age of Hollywood refreshment buffet. At the evening performance on the 22nd, there will also be a silent auction and cash bar.

The event is sponsored by the Fort Harrison, so all funds collected from ticket sales will go directly to the Sunscreen Film Festival, now coming into its 8th year. The Sunscreen Film Festival is a project of the St. Petersburg/Clearwater Film Society and is a 501c3 charitable organization. The film festival is dedicated to teaching the art of visual storytelling, supporting Florida filmmakers and promoting film as a cultural and economic asset in the Tampa Bay area.

The Fort Harrison, a historic hotel originally built in 1926, is now owned by the Church of Scientology, is open to the community for charitable events. Groups who have utilized the Fort Harrison include the Clearwater Downtown Partnership, Ebony Awakening, Harlem Nights and the Krewe of Venus. It is located at 210 S. Fort Harrison Ave in Clearwater.
