Follow on Google News | WANTED: Girls with Passion for the Environment and Energy Conservation!Turn Passion for the Environment and Engery Conservation Into Action at the 100 Years of Science Conference with keynote speaker Dr. Pamela Conrad, Astrobiologist for NASA
Girls attending will work with student volunteers from Stevens’ Society of Women Engineers and Girl Scout Adult Volunteers to gain hands-on experience through alternative energy experiments (e.g., examining a small wind turbine, testing turbine blades, designing, constructing and testing simple photovoltaic systems, solar water heaters and many additional Green Energy Projects. The daylong event will feature keynote speaker Pamela Conrad, an astrobiologist and mineralogist with the Planetary Environments Laboratory at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, USA. She is Deputy Principal Investigator and Investigation Scientist for the Sample Analysis at Mars instrument suite, which landed at Gale Crater on Mars as part of the Mars Science Laboratory mission in August. Her extensive field experience revolves around characterizing the edges of habitable zones in deserts (both polar and temperate) and testing rock targeting (triage) tools. She has participated in seven arctic expeditions as well as two Antarctic expeditions (one as PI), and explored deep-sea hydrothermal vents on the floor of the Pacific Ocean from a submersible. Earth-based interests include applying habitability assessment measurements to the chemical and mineralogical characterization of surface and shallow subsurface terrestrial environments. REGISTER TODAY! 100 Years of Science Conference (Registration deadline: September 18) for more information and to register contact Christina DeSalva at 973-842-4224 or cdesalva@gshnj.org. End
