#HITB2012KUL - Celebrating a Decade of Hosting the World’s Leading Security Researchers

Sept. 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Ten years ago, Hack In The Box (HITB) held its first ever ‘hacking conference’ in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Since then, this annual gathering of security enthusiasts has grown to become one of the world’s leading events for groundbreaking talks on cutting-edge IT security research with events in Europe and Asia.

Next month, HITBSecConf2012 returns to Kuala Lumpur from Oct 8 - 11 at the Intercontinental Kuala Lumpur hotel to celebrate 10 years of playing host to renowned speakers and security gurus. To commemorate its anniversary year, HITBSecConf2012 will be welcoming back on stage over 42 of their most popular speakers from the last decade. The speaker lineup features a range of well known researchers past and present including names like John 'Captain Crunch' Draper, The Founders of The Pirate Bay, Mikko Hypponen of F-Secure fame, Lucas Adamski from Mozilla Corporation and Chris Evans of Google’s Chrome Security Team amongst many other security luminaries. There will also be an iOS/OSX security panel discussion featuring members of the iPhone Dev Team/iOS Dream Team.

This year’s HITBSecConf promises to be their largest event to date with seven intensive technical training sessions in the first two days followed by two packed days of triple-track talks and an expanded  technology village (CommSec Village).

Free and open to public, the CommSec Village will feature more showcases from open source communities and various organisations including an expanded lock picking arena by members of TOOOL USA (The Open Organization of Lock Pickers). This year's Capture The Flag (CTF) competition has also been enhanced with 10 teams signed up to battle head to head in a 32-hour game. Last year’s new addition, HackWEEKDAY,  is also back, now in a longer, 36-hour hackathon format with developers invited to work on enhancing or developing browser extensions or work on hardware based projects involving Microsoft’s Kinect motion controller and the open-source RaspberryPi project. In addition, Google has announced Pwnium 2 - putting a total of $2 million in rewards on the table for anyone who can find bugs in its browser, exploit them, and tell Google’s security team the details of their techniques.
