For struggling homeowners who are being affected by foreclosure, Operation Reach 1 is encouraging them to write to their Congressional representative to petition for a moratorium on foreclosure sales on 9/11. Homeowners can identify their Congressman or Congresswoman by visiting http://www.house.gov.
“The attacks on 9/11 to our country and our free enterprise system represented the planned evil of a group of cowards, which attacked defenseless citizens of the United States,” said Denise Thomas, president of Operation Reach 1. “These acts of horror continue to reverberate throughout this country today as we fight economic difficulties globally – everyone, including the banks, should never forget what this day means. Struggling homeowners should be allowed to reflect on 9/11 with everyone else and, for at least one day, not worry about where they will be living.”
“By halting foreclosure sales on 9/11, we can show the world our unity and patriotism – that we are rebuilding our economy and standing strong behind the community of innocent souls that we lost on that day,” added Thomas. “As we face a tough economy, persisting unemployment and the loss of dignity that goes with that, we hope that we can all join together on 9/11 to focus on the healing we still very much need to do.”
