Anti-Sexist Activist Jackson Katz to Speak at The Bay School of San Francisco

PRLog (Press Release) - Sep. 11, 2012 - SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 5, 2012 — Educator and social theorist Jackson Katz will speak at The Bay School of San Francisco on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7:15 p.m. This special talk will explore gender roles and ways in which everyone can play an active part in promoting a safe social environment at school and in our community. Katz’s bystander approach to gender violence prevention ties in with The Bay School’s mission to promote a mindful approach to learning and life.

As an author, filmmaker, speaker, and co-founder of Northeastern University’s Mentors in Violence Prevention program, Katz has devoted his career to gender violence prevention. Widely published in academic journals, Katz also maintains a blog about masculinities and politics on The Huffington Post. His influential book, The Macho Paradox, Why Some Men Hurt Women and How All Men Can Help, like all of his work, aims to “reframe the conversation in the field of gender violence prevention.”

Katz has been involved with everything from the U.S. secretary of defense's Task Force on Domestic Violence in the Military to the Liz Claiborne Inc.'s award-winning “Women's Work” campaign. He holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Harvard University, and a Ph.D. in cultural studies and education from UCLA. Critics have hailed his talks at more than 1,100 schools, conferences and military installations since 1990 as captivating, humorous, informative and broadly inspiring.
