Sept. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- DALLAS  – “Electrical Safety: A Practical Guide to OSHA and NFPA 70E”  by James R. White was published and released earlier this month.  The book discusses the interaction between OSHA Electrical Safety-Related Work Practices regulations (29CFR1910.331 - .335) and NFPA 70E, closely related documents that share a common history.

The book is a comprehensive overview of electrical safety in the workplace, and is written as a course text with an instructor’s guide and workbook also available. The book presents OSHA regulations and helps readers become more familiar with the 2012 edition of NFPA 70E.  Drawing on many years of field experience and  years as a safety instructor, White shares his knowledge of real-life incidents through ‘Field Notes’ throughout the book so that readers may learn from his experiences and common errors he has witnessed.

Topics and references related to OSHA and the 2012 edition of NFPA 70E are presented throughout the book, including:
•   Electrical hazards and basic electrical safety concepts
•   Multi-employer worksites
•   Electrical safety programs
•   Training of qualified and unqualified workers
•   Approach boundaries for shock and arc flash hazards
•   Performing a hazard/risk analysis
•   Establishing an electrically safe work condition
•   Working on energized conductors and circuit parts
•   Portable electric tools and flexible cords
•   Choosing and inspecting personal protective equipment
•   Guidelines for common electrical tasks

White, Shermco Industries’ training director, has a long and distinguished career in the electrical industry and has held a wide range of industry chairs and posts.  Currently, he is a principal member of the NFPA technical committee “Recommended Practice for Electrical Equipment Maintenance” (NFPA 70B).  White represents NETA as an alternate member of the NFPA Technical Committee “Electrical Safety in the Workplace” (NFPA 70E) and also represents NETA on the ASTM F18 Committee “Electrical Protective Equipment For Workers”.  Jim is an IEEE Senior Member and in 2011 received the IEEE/PCIC Electrical Safety Excellence award.
