Sept. 10, 2012 - PRLog -- Global influencers are everywhere. They are in our classrooms and our board rooms, our businesses and our homes, our congregations and our social groups. That is because everyone has the capacity to affect change. IT IS AN IDEA WORTH SPREADING. And it is the theme of the upcoming Thursday, October 4, 2012, TEDxCincinnati event from 7-9 p.m. at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Cost is $25 per seat and pre-registration is required at http://www.TEDxCincinnati.com.

Their last event selling out, TEDxCincinnati—an independently organized event licensed by TED—brings thought-provoking ideas to life with engaging speakers and performers. At TEDxCincinnati “Every Citizen a Diplomat,” organizers want to get people talking about the importance of cultural understanding, appreciating diversity, and building international relationships…and the ability within each one of us to make that happen.
Sponsored by Sister Cities, the TEDxCincinnati event is the night before the start of Diversity In Action: Sister Cities International Regional Conference 2012 being held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Diplomats from a number of Midwest programs of Sister Cities International will be in attendance.

TEDxCincinnati speakers include the following individuals:

•   Bob Herring, principal of Nativity School, who since 1984 has facilitated 42 student exchanges with 24 schools in 18 countries
•   Carlos Reyes, board member of Sister Cities International and president/CEO of Young Americans for Diplomatic Leadership
•   Jenny M. Buccos, who through ProjectExplorer.org has directed/produced 375 short films viewed by millions of students in 40 countries, is a 2012 White House Champion of Change, and is a 2010 recipient of a National Award for Citizen Diplomacy
•   David Le, owner of Findlay Market’s popular Pho Lang Thang Vietnamese restaurant, whose Vietnamese parents inspired him to become a successful businessman and advocate for Asian Americans
•   Michael Cioffi, partner at the international law firm of Blank Rome LLP, who is included in the 2012 edition of “The Best Lawyers in America” and is also the founder of Monteverdi, a collection of 12 buildings in a Tuscany medieval village that hosts guests from around the world

The event will also feature performances by widely acclaimed Bi-Okoto Dance & Drum Theatre and the Young Professionals’ Choral Collective of Cincinnati.

“What is truly magical about TEDx events is the enthusiasm that they spark for issues. We are all about energizing people, opening dialogue, and moving people to action,” said Jami Edelheit, TEDxCincinnati curator and organizer. “This theme is so timely. Our region has already shown the world how we embrace diverse cultures when we hosted the World Choir Games and the Western & Southern Open. We want to keep that momentum going with this opportunity for people to connect and exchange ideas for understanding and cooperation on an international level.”

About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of "ideas worth spreading," TED has created TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 26 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. At TED, the world's leading thinkers and doers are asked to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED speakers have included Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sir Richard Branson, Benoit Mandelbrot, Philippe Starck, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Isabel Allende and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Two major TED events are held each year: The TED Conference takes place every spring in Long Beach, California (along with a parallel conference, TEDActive, in Palm Springs), and TEDGlobal is held each summer in Edinburgh, Scotland.

TED’s media initiatives include TED.com, where new TEDTalks are posted daily; the new TED Conversations, enabling broad conversations among TED fans; and the Open Translation Project, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as the ability for any TEDTalk to be translated by volunteers worldwide.

TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to host local, self-organized events around the world; and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
