Follow on Google News | Jelastic Java Cloud Hosting Platform: New Market Opportunities for Hosting ProvidersJelastic has announced the launch of version 1.8.2 of its ultra scalable and interoperable platform for Java cloud hosting. Jelastic Java PaaS can run and automatically scale any Java application without any code changes.
By: Jelastic The Platform-as- Jelastic offers a fundamentally new approach to Java cloud hosting: there is no learning curve for the end user and there is no need to recode applications in order to deploy them. Jelastic can run and scale any Java application with zero code changes. However, Jelastic also took the needs of hosting providers into account: the platform automatically allocates physical resources and automatically moves applications between host servers to optimize resource consumption and load. Unused environments can be hibernated as well- Jelastic will awake them as needed, automatically. Jelastic version 1.8.2 unveils a number of new features and updates. First, it allows for system updates without any downtime. How is it possible? Jelastic runs on two, different physical servers: they are independent but identical copies of each other. Only one of them is active at any point in time (the other is in standby mode). The currently active server can receive requests, while the one on standby can be upgraded. After the upgrade, the servers switch modes: the active server goes into standby and becomes available for upgrading. Second, bandwidth limitations for different types of accounts (beta, trial and billing) are now supported: the network quota can range from 1 to 4000. This feature ensures that customers on the same hosting provider do not affect each other negatively. Third, support for tiered pricing has been added: hosting providers can now create different user profile categories, dependent on traffic usage. Jelastic's pricing scale now shows the minimum, maximum and free amount of traffic for each user category. In a nutshell, the more traffic the user consumes, the lower price per GB he pays (and the more free traffic gets!), allowing hosting providers to reward their most active users. Jelastic's quality assurance monitoring system has also been dramatically improved: it now includes a subsystem for notifying publishers and subscribers about monitoring events, a single subscriber that collects information to MySQL database and the Pentaho BI system with reports and analysis charts. All of these improvements guarantee that service providers will be able to detect, report and resolve issues before they get any complaints. In addition to all of the new provider-side features, end users will benefit from many new features and improvements. They include an Elastic VDS with root access for each user, a Memcached node that ensures optimal memory use, the ability to create environments without application logic nodes, new tutorials and in-dashboard and interface guides and many more. The following hosting providers have already chosen Jelastic: dogado (Germany), Tsukaeru (Japan), Rusonyx (Russia), ServInt (US) and Layershift (UK). They have more than 25,000 signed-up users since Jelastic was launched in October 2011.
