Susan Wenrick, M.Ed., who serves as Chair of the Montgomery County Immunization Coalition (MCIC), initiated a statewide campaign to educate the public on the 2012 Immunization Regulations governing every student, K-12 throughout the Commonwealth, has been honored with the “Immunization Champion” award for 2012 presented by the Pennsylvania Immunization Coalition.
During Ms.Wenrick’s tenure as Chair of MCIC, (and continues into 2015), the organization has held five Annual Immunization Update Dinners that featured notable keynote speakers, such as Dr. Art Caplan and Dr. Paul Offit, Continuing Education Programs, and a variety of immunization-
Her innovative approach in “getting the message out” is evidenced in her creation of immunization mascot, “Victor Vaccine” and the “V Team”. awareness campaign promoting the need for compliance with new school regulations and mandates.
Wenrick’s V-Team developed a successful branding and education campaign this past spring focused on “Shout Out For Health”, a public relations program aimed at generating widespread attention to newly enacted immunization laws that have considerable impact on students and families throughout PA.
In presenting the award to Ms. Wenrick, Ruth Cole, PAIC Chair and Clinical Division Director for the Montgomery County Health Department noted her contributions to statewide awareness and education of all phases of immunization.
Susan provides superior leadership and combines expertise, creativity and enthusiasm to immunization education and compliance, and has taken both the Montgomery County Immunization Coalition and the PA Immunization Coalition to new heights. Susan was the major force in the formulation of bylaws, policies and marketing strategies, including the establishment of a coalition website, social media presence and advocacy and media outreach, in her leadership and comprehensive approach to immunization understanding and compliance. Her devoted energy to resource and coalition-building efforts, have supported immunizations throughout Pennsylvania.
The number of actual immunizations have risen and the new mandated regulations have been more successfully communicated due to the multiple activities that Susan led. We are honored to have Susan’s volunteer role expanded by becoming part of the Pennsylvania Immunization Coalition as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee, and giving her talented support to statewide, and national immunization initiatives.”
Ms. Wenrick serves in a full-time position with the Office of Aging and Adult Services of Montgomery County. Previously, she worked 12 years in child welfare. Her volunteerism includes a passion for “Relay for Life”, an annual event sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
