Dark Solus: An Assassin’s Tale, by David Andrew Crawford, received the Bronze Medal in Fiction/Fantasy while Amanda Grieme’s Dear Prudence won the Silver for Fiction/Intrigue.
Crawford’s book is the first in his Dark Saga series; this dark fantasy is set in a world ruled by magic, in a time before boundaries formed between the mystical kingdoms of Faërie and the mortal world of man. Grieme’s stirring Dear Prudence is the story of an escaped mental patient with a backpack full of unsent letters and a death wish who discovers something worth living for.
In the Children/Fable category, Sherrill S. Cannon’s Gimme-Jimmy took the Silver Medal with its delightful tale of a young boy who must learn the lesson of sharing. In the same category, Rita Kaye Vetsch’s The Many Colors of Friendship received Honorable Mention for its unique story of diversity and the power of friendship. This is a second nod for Vetsch’s book while Cannon’s earlier three books were each recognized last year. Leyla Atke’s Charm: An Amazing Story of a Little Black Cat was named a Finalist in Non-Fiction/
Opposites attract and sparks fly in the delightful romance The Sixties Girl, by Virginia Staat, which was awarded Honorable Mention in the Romance/Contemporary category.
