Follow on Google News | Deaf Ministry Spreads Hope During National Deaf Awareness WeekSeptember 23-29 is National Deaf Awareness Week, also known as the International Week of the Deaf. Each year many Deaf organizations nationwide including, the Rock Church, hold activities to educate others about deafness and celebrate Deaf people.
By: The Rock Church The Rock Church is one of many groups in San Diego that welcomes deaf people through communication and involvement. The Rock Church’s Deaf Ministry is a group dedicated to providing deaf people with the word and love of Christ through sign language interpretation during the 10 a.m. Sunday Service, weekly Bible studies, fellowship and monthly events. Sign language classes are also offered for those interested in learning how to communicate to the deaf. Behind these services come remarkable contributors like Michele Kassa, who dedicates her time to deaf people through the love for their language and culture. She was our first ever Rock Hero in 2008, which recognized her countless involvement within the deaf community. She is a sign language interpreter during Sunday Services, a foster mother of four deaf/special needs children and the Director of the annual Toys for Joy community event at Christmas. Her leadership skills have helped in making the Deaf ministry successful. We invite you to visit the Rock Church as we celebrate Deaf Awareness week. GET INVOLVED Deaf ministry has its own small group that meets Wednesday from 7-9. No interpreter is available. American Sign Language fall beginner’s class begins October 28 from 2-330PM.
