Clinton Elevates Obama For The Tumble

As inspiring as Bill Clinton’s speech was, his goal was not necessarily to help Barack Obama. The extremely lengthy talk with America started by highlighting how Clinton worked with Reagan and Bush Sr., while implying that Obama is not Clinton.

Sept. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Subtle it was, but the message was intended for moderate and independent voters, those that actually make the difference at the polling stations, because the crowd in a convention arena is always in the bag. The “Let’s talk about the debt” delivered the punch, and while criticizing the Republican plan and approach, Clinton stated unequivocally that government debt cannot be overlooked, and forcibly opened the door for Barack Obama to address the largely ignored issue — or not — with 24 hours to spare.

Without a doubt, Clinton appealed to the Democratic base and may have stimulated additional votes, while extolling the virtues of the Obama administration. But the speech was more about Clinton himself, as if he was running for office, and the more important smoke signals were being sent to the moderates and independents, while the convention floor was in a cheerful state of hypnosis, and rightly so. Then again, he knows audiences.

It goes without saying that misrepresentation of fact is a widely used tactic by both political parties, and the truth tends to be lost in translation despite the best efforts to correct the discrepancies by a few in the media. But independent people see beyond the nonsense, especially when the “I am flawless, the other person is 100% defective” statements take up the majority of a speech’s allotted time, and it happens across the political spectrum.
