Sept. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Independent filmmaker Elana Mugdan’s award-winning feature-length picture, formerly named Director’s Cut, has been picked up for distribution by producer Usher Morgan and Digital Magic Entertainment. DME is investing up to $100,000 into the film, which will receive a professional re-edit and a new sound track.

The film, which is being released under the new title Let’s Make a Movie, is a comedy about Cassie Thompson, a college dropout who, in an effort to turn around her dead-end life, decides to make an impossibly complicated fantasy film with a ragtag group of oddball friends. Her ambitions greatly exceed her capabilities. The film chronicles the team’s misadventures, along with Cassie’s growth as she struggles to keep her dream alive.

DME plans an aggressive marketing campaign to accompany the release of the re-titled film, scheduled for December 14, 2012 – two years to the day after its world premiere at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. “We’re delighted to be collaborating with Mugdan on this gem of a film,” said Morgan. “We are confident it will appeal to a wide general audience, especially young adults.”

Mugdan wrote, directed and edited the film, which is more than a little bit autobiographical: she made a trilogy of impossibly complicated feature-length fantasy films while she was in high school and college. And like her protagonist Cassie, Mugdan suffered through a pointless, unpaid internship where, instead of making use of her filmmaking talents, the boss assigned her to deliver his dry cleaning.

Let’s Make a Movie was shot primarily in Queens, NYC, where Mugdan has lived her entire life, with additional scenes shot in Manhattan and Nassau County. The film’s New York City roots run deep. Dave Dodds, another Queens native, was behind the camera as director of photography. Special effects were provided by Lenz Productions, owned by Eugene Chu, also of Queens. And most of the actors, including Hallie York in the lead role, are from Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The trailer for Let’s Make a Movie will be available September 15th at: www.Lets-Make-A-Movie.com, along with cast bios, production photos and other information.
