PRESENTING ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

Alexis Convento & Artists – guest choreographer Alexis Convento, a Philadelphia native, is Artistic Director/Choreographer of Alexis Convento & Artists, a contemporary modern and improvisational dance company based in New York City. Started in 2011 the company has already performed at The Cunningham Theatre (WestFest, Dec 2011), Baruch Performing Arts Center (REVERBDance APAP, Jan 2012), The Wild Project (The Current Sessions, Aug/Nov 2011), Salvatore Capezio Theater (Guest Artists, July 2011 & Peridance Showcases, February/August 2011) and Muller/The WORKS Foundation (HATCH: Presenting Series, Nov 2011).  Through our sense of contemporary movement, ALEXIS CONVENTO & artists become available to moments of freedom through willingness and action. Our company recognizes both gestural and athletic phrases, fluid transitions, and instinctual qualities through choreography and improvisational score. We are interested in the evolution of artistry by melding dance with sensory and texture in order to create a high level of integrity during the process on and off stage

Monarch Dance Company– director/choreographer Tabatha Robinson Scott’s company based in the Lehigh Valley and now in it’s 13th season has performed evening length shows at Old Christ Church Neighborhood House, the Performance Garage, Temple University’s Conwell Dance Theater and in NY at Dance New Amsterdam and the Ailey Citigroup Theater.  Tabatha has also had her choreography performed by various companies including In Motion Dance Company who performed her work in London during the Olympics. Monarch’s mission is to produce contemporary culturally poignant work versed in the community and the artists it supports.  Through educational residencies and performances, Monarch strives to reach new audiences, introducing them to the realm of Afro-Contemporary dance.

MM2 Modern Dance Company – under the direction of Steven Weisz MM2 has established itself as an incubator, providing support, space and opportunities for new emerging dance artists, who wish to explore the choreographic process, in order to cultivate and introduce new work to new audiences. MM2 dancers are committed to creating and performing a new body of work each year. The company has toured both nationally and internationally.  In 2012, MM2 Modern Dance will tour Toronto, Canada; and in 2013, MM2 is scheduled to perform in Spain, with additional countries currently being negotiated.
