Douglas County, Colorado, September 5th, 2012: Parent Led Reform has found hundreds of emails from unauthorized groups and individuals using the Dougco School System communication system. The emails contain messaging that is inappropriate for use through public communication, including campaign paraphernalia from failed school board candidates, recruitment attempts by groups that are openly attacking the school district, and unsolicited materials going to student email accounts by similar groups.
“Having a secure communication system is extremely important for school districts to protect the privacy of teachers and students,“ says Karin Piper, the Executive Director of Parent Led Reform. “If these individuals can use public school emails for their own self interest, then who else may suddenly send unwanted communications to our kids?”
PLR is now calling for DCSD to investigate which unauthorized parties are currently abusing the district email system and hold such individuals and groups accountable for their actions.
