Sept. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Columbia, SC (September 5, 2012) – Executive Chef Tim Peters of Motor Supply Co. Bistro continues making an impact on the South Carolina sustainable food scene with Fall Harvest Week at Motor Supply, October 16-21, 2012. A supporter of the Slow Food movement toward “good, clean and fair” food systems, Peters created the twice-yearly Harvest Week event to highlight the small, local and sustainable farms from whom he purchases on a daily basis.

Notes Motor Supply owner Eddie Wales, "Even though Harvest Week is a relatively new signature event at Motor, we have a long tradition of maintaining close, working relationships with local, sustainable farmers on a daily basis." Wales adds, "This is just a way to showcase and celebrate what they do for us 365 days a year." The first Harvest Week event took place during Fall 2011, followed by Summer 2012. Fall 2012 will mark the third iteration of this signature event.

During Fall Harvest Week at Motor Supply, a unique, farm-to-table dish featuring ingredients from a different local, sustainable farm will be added to Motor Supply’s a la carte dinner menu each evening. Motor's signature cocktail menu will also reflect seasonal, farm-to-shaker ingredients inspired by what's available to head bartender Josh Streetman at the time. "Meet the Farmer Happy Hour" will kick off the week-long celebration on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, from 5:30pm-7pm, when farm owners will be on deck at Motor's historic bar and communal table to chat with guests in a casual environment.

Including farms like Caw Caw Creek, City Roots, Doko Farm, Freshly Grown Farms and Wil-Moore Farms, the week showcases Peters’ passion for ingredient-driven cooking as well as the superior products of the local farmers that come void of the pesticides, hormones and antibiotics used by many commercial farms.

Sustainably farmed goat loin from Doko Farm in Blythewood will be a featured ingredient for Fall Harvest Week 2012. "I just want to do something different," says Executive Chef Tim Peters. "A third of the world eats goat. I'd like to bring goat to the tables of Columbia and take away the stigma surrounding it." Peters continues, "The perception is that goat is a tough, gamey animal. When raised with natural grazing on a sustainable farm like Doko, however, the broad palate of the goat reflects beautifully in its flavorful, lean meat." Peters adds, "Yearling goats are particularly ideal, and Amanda and Joe Jones understand the ideal life cycle and harvesting time for optimal culinary results. I love working with Doko in this regard."
