Sept. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Children throughout Pasco County are sporting new backpacks and school supplies thanks to a partnership between Kiwanis Club of Greater West Pasco and Gulfside Regional Hospice.

From July 10 to August 10, Gulfside Regional Hospice’s Thrift Shoppes collected school supplies for the Kiwanis Club to distribute at local schools.  In past years, the Kiwanis donated to two elementary schools in west Pasco, but thanks to the generosity of the community, the club was able to donate to six elementary schools and Pasco Kids First throughout Pasco County, said Jane King from the Kiwanis Club of Greater West Pasco.

Thanks to the partnership, 200 backpacks were donated to the community this year, doubling the total from last year, said King. Recipient schools include Mittye P. Locke Elementary in New Port Richey; Moonlake Elementary in New Port Richey; Sunray Elementary in Holiday;
Northwest Elementary in Hudson; Lacoochee Elementary in Dade City; and Quail Hollow Elementary in Wesley Chapel.

“We are so grateful and overwhelmed by the wonderful donations that the community gave to support the Back to School Supply Drive at Gulfside’s Thrift Shoppes,” said Linda Ward, Gulfside’s president and CEO. “Thanks to the donations, more children and families were able to receive school supplies from the Kiwanis Club of Greater West Pasco and Gulfside Regional Hospice than ever before.”

The Kiwanis Club of Greater West Pasco, chartered in 1967, sponsors the Special Person Program at Red Apple Training School, as well as supports The Angelus, S.O.L.V.E. of West Pasco and collecting school supplies for needy kids. The club meets weekly on Thursdays at 6 p.m. at The Broken Yolk Restaurant, 3350 Grand Blvd in Holiday, and guests are welcome to attend.
